Big Al’s was a blast!

We had an absolute blast at Big Al’s this weekend, mateys! We feel that it was one of our best shows to date, and we want to thank all of our new friends for making it such a great time.

Big Al’s is a restaurant/bar (that just happens to serve some of the best pirate drinks around). Everyone was there eating, so we had a captive audience. It was a joy to see everyone enjoying the music, too, by clapping and whistling and occasionally even singing along where they could. As a musician, the second greatest joy (behind playing the music you love) is having an active audience that takes part in the show. Saturday was definitely one of those nights.

We had several people come up to use afterword and tell us that their initial reaction upon hearing it was a ‘pirate band’ was quite skeptical. As one man put it, “When a friend said, ‘Lets go see this pirate band’ I said sure, why not. I figured I would stay for 2 or 3 songs then leave. But those 3 songs became 5, then 7, then 10. It was so refreshing to hear music that wasn’t the same old rock cover tunes you always hear. I had an absolute blast!” We hear this at nearly every show, and it makes our night!

We also had a guest fiddler with us who did a spot-on job even though she had never played most of the songs before. From what I could hear in my corner, and from what we heard from the audience, she did a beautiful job. Thanks, DJ! We know that she plays with a couple of other bands, including Queen’s Gambit, but rumor has it that she’ll be lending her skills to a few songs on the new album and even playing shows with us when she can.

Remember, we’ll be playing in at VisionCon in Springfield, MO, this coming weekend, then at Nathan P Murphy’s in February. So, if you didn’t get to catch us this time around, you’ll have plenty of chances coming up. Be there or walk the plank!
